Sudarshan, maybe i didn't have the perfect lens to shoot portraits but i loved to use the wide angle to shoot people. at 24mm, getting too close can get them distorted, but for shots such as these i couldn't complain. seriously one of the best for portraits would definitely be the time tested 50mm prime. if you are looking for serious portraits, i dont mean the studio ones, then 50mm is the lens for you. you have sufficient distance from the subject, enough not to alarm them and at apertures such as 1.4 and 1.8(primes usally come with these f nos) you can shoot with the available light and obtain shallow depth if you prefer.
