Light!
well, kishore suggested that it would be nice if i could disclose digital manipulation, if any, done on the pictures i post. so for a start, the above picture has undergone the following. this was a colour photograph, i first resized and sharpened the image(unsharp mask). then converted it to grayscale, and altered levels. i needed an extra border of white so i stroked the border to 5 pixel of white. oh yes, there was some bit of cropping too.

Dear Satish,
i mainly use partial metering to capture the sunrays or while shooting against the sun (for nikonians its spot metering). well, try to meter just a little further away from the sun since directly metering the sun will grossly underexpose the picture. for people with manual metering, underexpose by atleast two or three stops depending on the intensity of the sunlight. for shooting the sunrays another technique would be to zoom-in on the rays, metering them and locking the exposure. recompose the picture and shoot. but then, try alteast three to four shots.. its hard to predict the perfect exposure for such shots. sometimes the best picture would be the one with which you thought you had really gone wrong!
